Nuku'alofa, Tonga : ‘Emeline Haisila (43) was sentenced today to two-years and three-months imprisonment for possession of 2.43 grams of methamphetamines and utensils. She told the court she was using it to stay awake to weave and earn money for her family.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : HM King Tupou VI welcomed China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister HE Mr Wang Yi and delegation this afternoon at the Royal Palace in Nuku’alofa. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A 42-year-old male of Pili has died, following a Police pursuit by car and on foot in the early afternoon of today, Monday 30 May. Tonga Police stated this evening that, “the police officer that first caught the suspect noticed that the suspect was having trouble breathing.” An investigation into the incident has been launched. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Around USD1.5 million has been committed by the Government of Japan to provide useful equipment, including fishing boats to aid Tonga's fisheries sector in its post tsunami recovery. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Lord Tu’ivakano lost his appeal against the dismissal of his malicious prosecution claim against the Police Commissioner, Attorney General and the Kingdom of Tonga in 2021, when he was claiming a total of $5.75 million in damages. Today, the Appeal Court judges stated that the Lord Chief Justice was right to dismiss the malicious prosecution claim. Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Deputy Prime Minister Poasi Tei and former Prime Minister Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa, both Members of Parliament have each been granted a stay in the execution of their judgements, that declared their election void, until their appeal is heard and determined. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Crucial generator parts are expected to arrive from Germany tomorrow, Saturday. Tonga Power Ltd. has been waiting for the parts needed to fix two electrical generators that went down, forcing some load shedding or rolling power cuts on Tongatapu at peak times since the beginning of May. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Mafi Fatongiatau Fakatene (22) was sentenced to four-years imprisonment for grievous bodily harm, when he wounded a 25-year-old victim with a machete at Fua'amotu.
