High jump athlete Mosese Foliaki was a class ahead of his competition on day eight of the Pacific Games July 16, clearing a jump of 2.06 metres compared to the 1.99 metres jumps cleared by second placed Malakai Kaiwalu (Fiji) and Peniel Richard (PNG).

Tonga’s champion weightlifter ‘Aisake Tu‘itupou caused a big upset at the 2019 Pacific Games after he beat 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medalist David Liti (New Zealand) and silver medalist Lauititi Lui (Samoa) to win two golds for Tonga in the highest division (Over 109kg) of the weightlifting competition at the Pacific Games in Samoa on Saturday 13 July.

Commonwealth weightlifting gold medallist David Liti (of Tongan descent) was awarded the David Dixon Award for his sportsmanship in assisting a fellow injured weightlifter Lauititi Lui of Samoa. The David Dixon Award is a four-yearly award given to the outstanding athlete of each Commonwealth Games, based on their performance at the event, fair play, and overall contribution to their team's participation at the Commonwealth Games.

Woman boxer Magan Maka will be Tonga’s flag bearer at the XXI Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia next month. TASANOC announced yesterday that the 24-year-old will lead Tonga’s team of 13 athletes in the parade of nations on 15 April. The announcement comes a week after Government banned women's boxing from public schools.
