Which is better for financing the budget: foreign aid or debt? That is always the question before Pacific island countries (PICs) each year. The dilemma becomes acute when the future is uncertain with mounting public debts and rising debt servicing obligations. By T. K. Jayaraman

Tonga's Attorney General Neil Adsett has announced he is stepping down, stating that, “I confirm that I am finishing up soon as Attorney General in Tonga. It is the right time now for a Tongan lawyer to take over, especially with important cabinet meetings, parliament sessions and elections later this year.”

Oceania's Humpback whale population is slowly recovering, but it will take three decades before the population will fully recover from its near extinction levels in the 1960s, according to an assessment by the South Pacific Whale Research Consortium (SPWRC).
