Would love to see
Would love to see competitions for athletes. It would be a sad thing if we just use school kids again. Shot put champ in schools is not likely to be the best we got. We don't have to do all the events at once, but we can do some separately. E.g some long distant runs or cycling can be on the road, easily measured to a good enough degree with google maps. And boxing, let people come in to an event, weigh in and take part. Let them enjoy their time.
Athletes could pay an affordable registration fee, and if we can host at a stadium or arena, we can charge small spectators fee. Ask for volunteers who are willing to help with the times. Proceeds paying for the event place and rest going towards the games.
Athletes compete to become and recorded as Tonga champ of the year, each year up to 2018. And when it comes to 2019, we'll be sure who are the best, and see if their times qualify. The Pacific Games is unaffordable yes, but at least we could try our best to make it fun as well and go from there.
