Confusion over the credibility of final examination marks for Tonga’s Form 5, 6, and 7 students at the end of 2015 school year is a matter of great concern for Tonga. After receiving their end of the year school examination results, Tonga's Form 5, 6 and 7 students are facing the difficulties that their marks are not recognized by some higher education institutions in Tonga and overseas. The problem is deeper than
The problem is deeper than the marks. A better standard to aim for is just make sure the students understand what they are learning. Memorising is not learning, if a student understands it and can make links to other things he or she knows it's easier to remember.
Also let's step back a little, education is not for getting a fancy paper saying you're smart and capable, it's preparing you to be capable in the real world. Education sector need to look at the job market and keep checking what their work demands. Businesses don't have to accept fancy papers if a person comes in with one, they can reject it if they know the school standard is not up to scratch. Secondary school should be enough for many jobs.
All this rush to get tertiary education that sometimes isn't really necessary and reflects another problem, lack of jobs available for young school leavers.
