    : Australian-Tongan teenager Alo-Bridget Namoa may spend the rest of her life in prison. Last Wednesday she was charged with plotting a terrorist attack by a Sydney Court, a charge which carries a penalty of life imprisonment. If convicted, the 19-year-old girl will be the first known convicted terrorist of Tongan descent.

    : A large haul of illicit drugs seized in Vava’u from a yacht called 'JeReVe' in 2012 was destroyed by authorities in Australia, Tonga's Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell confirmed today in response to allegations raised in Parliament by Lord Tu'ilakepa. He said the comments by MPs were unfounded and attacked the reputation of the police.

    : A national awareness campaign, 'Read with your Child' under a Pacific Early Age Readiness and Learning program (PEARL) was launched on 31 January, by Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tuku'aho, who encouraged families and parents to read to their children for 10 minutes daily because reading strengthens minds and opens up opportunities. Tonga, where 35% of children are not being read to at home, is the first country in the Pacific to benefit from this program.

    : Vailele Taukitoku the owner of the FV Losemani Fo'ou and one of six Tongan fishermen who were rescued by the German cruise ship The Albatros south of Tonga on Saturday, February 4, is thankful for their rescue and his safe return home to Tonga last night, but he's very sad that he's lost his little boat, and his fishing livelihood.     : The names of six men on board the fishing boat Losemani Fo'ou when it left Nuku'alofa on January 30 at around around 3:00pm in the afternoon, were confirmed by the Ports Master's Office in Nuku'alofa today. The rescue of the men at sea was filmed by passengers and crew on board the Albatros who sent in new photos of the rescue. "The ocean does not like carelessness," one told Matangi Tonga.
