Strong wind and heavy rain warning for Tongatapu

A strong wind and heavy rain warning is in force for Tongatapu, ‘Eua and Ha’apai land areas, tonight and tomorrow, Saturday.

The Fua’amotu Forecasting weather bulletin this afternoon said a flash flooding advisory remains in force for Tongatapu, 'Eua and Ha'apai.

This is due to another trough is approaching Tongatapu, 'Eua and Ha'apai, expected by tonight and tomorrow. Associated clouds and occasional rain with thunderstorms will affect most parts of the Group.

The forecast for midnight for Tongatapu, Ha’apai and ‘Eua is light to moderate north to northwest winds, then becoming fresh to strong by tonight and tomorrow.

It will also be mostly cloudy or overcast with occasional rain, possibly heavy at times with isolated thunderstorms. Possible flash flooding in low-lying areas due to heavy rain.

Vava’u is expected to have light to moderate north to northwesterly winds, cloudy with occasional showers, possibly heavy at time

For the Niuas is light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, variable at times. It will he mainly fine apart from cloudy periods with scattered showers.

Outlook for Sunday

For Ha’apai, Tongatapu, ‘Eua is moderate north to northwesterly winds, fresh at times, with cloudy periods with scattered showers.

For the Niuas and Vava’u is light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, mainly fine apart from cloudy periods with scattered showers.
