    : Police are concerned with a significant amount of firearms and ammunition that have been smuggled into Tonga and the risks they pose to community safety, a Deputy Police Commissioner warned today, after more seizures of ammunition and cannabis were made by Tonga Police on April 30, at different locations in Tongatapu.

    : A team of around 50 medical staff from different countries, including Australia and New Zealand, will volunteer their services to treat Tongans with heart conditions at Vaiola Hospital from September 3-21. Dr Siaosi ‘Aho said healthy Tongans can assist by visiting the hospital to donate their blood. “We need to increase the blood bank before the team arrives and we really need blood donors.”

    : This is a big year for anniversaries in China. On May 4, the People’s Republic will commemorate the centennial of the May Fourth Movement, the student-led protests in front of Beijing’s Tiananmen Gate in 1919 that marked the birth of Chinese nationalism. And then, one month later, on June 4, will come the 30th anniversary of the violent suppression of pro-democracy student protests on the same site. This milestone, by contrast, will not be officially acknowledged, much less commemorated, in China.
