Ports Authority Tonga was elected as the new President of the Pacific Maritime Transport Alliance for the next three years, at PMTA's Annual General Meeting held in Auckland, New Zealand, yesterday.

When the 42nd PMTA Annual Conference hosted by the Ports of Auckland Limited opened this morning, August 3, the Secretariat of the Pacific Community officially handed over its role as the PMTA Secretariat for more than 10 years, to the Chairman of the Transport Shared Board of Directors, Mr Stephen Edwards on behalf of Ports Authority Tonga.

The conference theme, “Sustainability”, reflects the balance that the Pacific port organizations seek between economic health, environmental guardianship, and their contribution to the Pacific communities they support.

Speaking at the opening, Mr Edwards acknowledged and accepted the PMTA Secretariat role on behalf of Ports Authority Tonga.
