Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A Maori Trust from New Zealand has been granted leases over the ‘Eua Forest Reserve, and at least 50 years control over a former public enterprise Tonga Forest Products Ltd, the Tonga government announced on June 17.

Auckland, New Zealand : Pacific Island countries can’t manage their current level of debts, the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI) reveals in a new report. In a low key statement, PASAI said yesterday that debt in Pacific Island countries is currently “at unsustainable levels” and that they need to improve their debt management strategies. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : With more unseasonal heavy rain falling today in Tongatapu, homes in low lying and swamp areas in Kolomotu’a were flooded. Sio Tuiano, the Kolomotu’a Town Officer, who is concerned about the health risks of floodwaters contaminated with E.coli, said a few of the residents have taken shelter in an evacuation centre, but most people do not want to leave their homes.
