Tonga's oiled flag-bearer a social media sensation
Saturday, August 6, 2016 - 21:29
Tonga's Olympic flag bearer Pita Taufatofua became an instant internet sensation when he walked into the Opening Ceremony of the Rio Olympics today [noon-4:00pm Tonga time] dressed like a Tongan dancer glistening with oil. Pita's attracted a lot of attention for Tonga and also for his sport Taekwondo. After this he's sure to win some modelling contracts as the hottest man today in a town that's known for its appreciation of the body beautiful. Here's what Twitter and the news media are talking about:

Congratulations to Matangi
Congratulations to Matangi Tonga for your comprehensive coverage of Pita Taufatofua stealing the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics yesterday for Tonga. Great for us who don't have time (and knowledge) on how to troll the Internet. As it's Sunday today, I hope that our church leaders are leading the prayers for those responsible for managing sports associations in the kingdom, to be blessed with the same dedication, discipline, drive, passion, commitment, perseverance, practice and good heart (like Pita Taufatofua and other Olympians) to help the development of our Tongan sports people in Tonga and in the diaspora. And in the process help Tongan peeps to become healthier in mind and spirit by treating our bodies as the holy temple through which we serve our God(s). This message was actively promoted by King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV & Dr Tili Puloka in the last century. Malo Lahi kia Dr Pita Faiva Taufatofua & Dr Rosemary Faletoese and all those who have inspired our sports hero de jour.
