    : A woman Police Constable on the fifth-day of trial into the death of New Zealand Police officer Kali Fungavaka, has told the court that one of the accused officers had attempted to punch Kali, while another held the top collar of his shirt and pushed his neck against the wall, when he was in custody at the Central Nuku'alofa Police station in the early morning of Saturday August 18, 2012.

    : The first sitting of Tonga’s Court of Appeal which ended on Wednesday, April 9, in Nuku'alofa delivered judgments, that included reducing a 16-years sentence imposed on a man who sharpened his knife and stabbed his sleeping wife 23 times. The court replaced it with 10-years imprisonment with the final two-years suspended.

    : Tonga’s Public Service Association (PSA) is demanding an additional 20% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) in their salaries and wages, the Minister of Finance, Hon. 'Aisake Eke told the Tongan Parliament on April 6. Whether or not government could meet the demand would not be clear until the government’s 2014-15 budget was finalized.

    : The Ministry of Infrastructure has stopped the Tonga Red Cross from constructing temporary shelters for families in Ha‘apai after Tropical Cyclone Ian devastated the islands in January. Two houses completed on the island of Mou'unga'one were handed over to affected families this week but the Red Cross had planned to build another 24 to alleviate the suffering.
