‘'Unuaki Institute encourages youth to seek further training

Awards for achievement in non-formal studies of tourism, hospitality, music, entertainment, and dance were made by the 'Unuaki 'o Tonga Royal Institute at their annual prize giving ceremony on November 19, 2011.

The Director of the institute, 'Akosita Havili Lavulavu said that the motto of the 'Unuaki 'o Tonga Royal Institute UTRI, "Education for All" and its mission to "Move Tonga Forward", were being realized through the increased participation of young Tongans in non-formal education.

She said that UTRI was offering non-formal education, and was targeting unemployed youth and those who had dropped out of school. The enrollment at the UTRI was more than double in 2011 with 294 students, compared to 143 in 2010.

The UTRI achievement award ceremony for 2011 focused on four specific areas: Tourism and Hospitality; Tourism; Music and Entertainment; and Dance and Entertainment.

Four students received Certificate IV in Tourism and Hospitality; five students, Certificate IV in Hospitality; 16 students, Certificate III in Hospitality; 34 students, Certificate II in Hospitality; 25 students, Certificate 1 in Hospitality; six students, Certificate IV in Music and Entertainment; 32 students, Certificate KKK in Music and Entertainment and 14 students, Certificate of Attainment in Dance and Entertainment.

The Minister of Education, Dr 'Ana Maui Taufe'ulungaki was the Guest of Honour, assisted by the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Dr Viliami Latu in the presentation of certificates.
