Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Public Notice: The Reserve Bank confirms that business such as investment activities, whereby funds are received from the public to be used for investments or loans at the risk of the person doing such business, is considered banking business. These activities are permitted to be conducted in Tonga only by those who have a banking licence granted by the Reserve Bank under section 7 of the Banking Act 2020. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Six volcanic eruptions were detected from active Home Reef volcano in the last 24 hours, and volcanic ash was observed by satellites, Tonga Geological Services reported today, advising the Aviation Community. “to maintain vigilance and take caution when flying near Home Reef airspace.” -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : One more volcanic eruption was detected in the past 24 hours from Home Reef and prior to this were five eruptions, Tonga Geological Services reported today. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The biggest hog farm in Tonga, Season Farm at 'Utulau, is raising over 200 commercial swines (sinamanu) and 5000 piglets. Owners, Lu and Emily Lin, led a tour around the farm with the Minister for Agriculture, Food, and Forest, Lord Fohe, and CEO Dr. Viliami Toalei Manu, on 13 October. They hope that locally farmed meat can help reduce Tonga's high imports of poultry.Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Seinivunga Lafo’ou (30) was sentenced to 20-months imprisonment, partially suspended, for forgery and theft of around $34,000 from her employer, National Rugby League Tonga, taken from a bank account in 46 systematic unauthorised withdrawals over 13-months. She tried to frame her co-worker for the theft. The funds stolen were a grant from the Government of Australia for the development of NRL in Tonga.Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Tonga Power Ltd. is addressing power outages due to the HTHH volcanic ashfall impact on the new High Voltage Aerial Bundled Cabling (HV ABC) network infrastructure in Tonga. This ash residue has exacerbated friction between the cabling, mixed with cable heat from electricity flow, sunlight heat and the corrosive nature of the solidified abrasive ash substances, resulting in short circuits across parts of our High Voltage network. - Tonga Power Ltd. -
