    : Telstra announced yesterday it had completed the acquisition of Digicel Pacific in partnership with the Australian Government. The acquisition which was initially announced in October 2021 was finalised, after necessary government and regulatory approvals. Digicel Pacific communications services across Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Nauru, Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu will be overseen by a Telstra controlled board, chaired by Telstra Enterprise Group Executive, David Burns.

    : New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will attend the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders’ Meeting in Fiji this Tuesday to Thursday, the first time Pacific leaders have met face to face since 2019 and coming at a crucial time for the region. Ardern will participate in a range of meetings throughout the week, culminating in the traditional leaders’ retreat. She will hold bilateral meetings with a number of Pacific leaders and make announcements on climate and aid projects.

It is shocking because Japan has known almost no political violence for at least a half-century, and because gun ownership in the country is tightly controlled.
