Hu’akavameiliku introduced, to world leaders, the region's ‘Unlocking Blue Pacific Prosperity’ initiative, to rejuvenate and protect the Blue Pacific Continent for future generations. The King expressed concern over the slow progress on the Paris Agreement, when he delivered a statement at the 28th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on 1 December 5, 2023 in Dubai.

    : Tonga is bringing home two gold medals from the 2023 Pacific Games after the national netball team, Tala, won gold at Friendship Hall in Honiara, on Saturday, 2 December. Tonga also bagged a respectable number of silver and bronze medals. New Caledonia won an overwhelming 197 medals at SOL2023 held in Honiara, Solomon Islands, from 19 November to 2 December.

    : A new series of Tongan bank notes was launched today, 4 December, in commemoration of the official birthday of Tupou I - a national public holiday. HRH Prince Ata unveiled the new bank notes at a launch held by the National Reserve Bank of Tonga t the Fa’onelua Convention Centre in Nuku’alofa.

    : A State of the Global Climate report confirms that 2023 is set to be the warmest year on record. Data until the end of October shows that the year was about 1.40 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial levels, delegates at COP28 heard. Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku and delegates, are in Dubai for the 28th meeting of the United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP28) that runs from 30 November to 12 December.

The group of 15 young women from throughout New Zealand, led by Leata Loelu, have spent a fortnight in Tonga engaging in community services.

    : The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) received the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Innovation for Sustainable Development Awards 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday 27 November, for its project, the "Pacific Sustainable Tourism Policy Framework (PSTPF) 2030."     : Two Police officers, Penitiketo Latu and Taliai Tapueluelu, were found guilty of causing serious bodily harm to a young soldier (19), whom they kicked on the mouth, fracturing his jaw using their police boots, as he lay defenceless and unconscious, on the floor of the Neiafu Police Station, in Vava’u in 2021.

    : The Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) volunteer program, known as (JOCV) Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, celebrated 50 years of service in Tonga on 23 November, with a function at the Tanoa Hotel.     : Domestic rainwater tanks are often contaminated and unsafe to drink if not managed and cleaned regularly, a recent study has shown. Conducted by Tonga's Ministry of Health, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Asian Development Bank, the study found drinking water is often contaminated with E. coli.

    : Four participants of the Tonga cohort of the 2023 Pacific Greenpreneurs Program graduated today, with two recipients awarded total funds of USD$55,000 (approximately TOP $130,000). Mr Masa Kawaguchi, director of South Pacific Mozuku Ltd, a growth-stage green enterprise in Tonga, was awarded a USD $50,000 zero-interest repayable grant. Mrs Lu'isa Nau, owner of Culture Fusion Tonga, winner of the Business Plan competition, was awarded USD $5,000 for an innovative business model.
