    : Despite uncertainty about the outlook for inflation and interest rates in major economies and trading partners, developing Pacific economies are expected to grow in 2023 and 2024 due to a recovery in tourism, post-disaster rebuilding, and infrastructure construction, a World Bank report released today says. Fiji is expected to continue leading the Pacific's recovery from the pandemic. Robust growth is also projected for Palau, Samoa, Tuvalu, and Federated States of Micronesia. While in Tonga most households receive remittances from abroad.

    : A Nuku'alofa bar owner has lost an Appeal in the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court and failed to have charges that emanated from a police entry to be set aside. The licensee was appealing against the decision of a Magistrate who declared that Tonga Police had lawfully entered the Billfish Bar premises. In his judgment on 4 August, the Lord Chief Justice agreed with the Magistrate that the Police constables' entry to the bar was lawful under Section 70 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act.

    : New Zealand Universities are now accepting students who have completed the Tongan National Form Seven Certificate (TNFSC) programme. Tonga's Prime Minister's Office announced on 4 August, that the qualification has been accepted as "meeting the minimum requirements" for entrance to a New Zealand University.

    : A new dialysis centre under construction in Tonga, is expected to be completed in April next year, the Minister of Health, Hon Dr Saia Piukala, said today. There are about 50 patients in Tonga who urgently need the dialysis treatment and they will be the first to get treatments, when the dialysis centre opens, he told a media briefing at the Prime Minister's Office.
