The University of the South Pacific Council has appointed Mr Winston Thompson as its new Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council for three years, starting from January 2016. The meeting noted its Strategic Plan 2013-18 "sets out an ambitious path to transform USP from good to an excellent University.”

Tonga’s Minister of Education, the Prime Minister Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva, faced a crisis this week in his move to discard 12 years of development in the national examination system in order to revert to an earlier simpler method called “Raw Marks”. He told a noisy meeting at the Tonga Institute of Education at Pahu on 14 October that Tongan schools will hand out two sets of examination results at the end of the 2015 school year. A petition calling for the dismissal of Tonga’s Minister of Education, the Prime Minister Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva, and the Acting Minister of Education, Hon. ‘Etuate Lavulavu, will be presented to HM King Tupou VI on Wednesday, 21 October, former Education CEO, ‘Emeli Pouvalu, announced this week, amid growing anxiety over conflicts of interest and clashes within the ministry.

Yesterday's Emancipation Day Public Holiday in Tonga was a big clean-up day for homes and gardens in Nuku'alofa and Tongatapu villages before this month's Coronation of Tupou VI. Tonga High School's Form 7 students were out lending their hands to the clean-up to raise funds for upcoming events.
