Saudi Arabia's Minister of Tourism, Mr. Ahmed Aqeel AlKhateeb visited Tonga for a few hours on 15 June and met with Prime Hon. Hu’akavameiliku and Cabinet minister in Nuku'alofa. The two countries formally established diplomatic relations on 14 December, 2020.

Tongan community leaders in Auckland are organising a Talanoa this Friday to make a public call for peace in relation to the recent spate of gang violence including shootings that have occurred in the city over the last three weeks. It comes ahead of next week's rugby league international between Mate Ma'a Tonga and the Kiwis, with concerns that rival gang members may rub shoulders during Mate Ma'a Tonga festivities. “We must draw the line so our youth know where we stand," said Rev. Ikilifi Pope.

The prince has completed his post-graduate studies in Canberra. They were received by Australia's Governor-General Hon. David Hurley and Mrs Hurley at Government House in Canberra at the weekend.

The receipt of relief funds from the government’s development partners to support Tonga’s recovery from the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai volcanic eruption and tsunami has boosted Tonga’s foreign reserves. The official foreign reserves held by the National Reserve Bank of Tongavin April 2022, had increased considerably by $22.6 million to (from March) to $884.0 million, and by over $204 million since April last year.

King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u are leading a ‘Paletu’a Project’ to build a new neighbourhood near Matatoa for the resettlement of hundreds of Kanokupolu people whose homes were destroyed by the Hunga tsunamis in January. Afimeimo’unga Hola (40) received a suspended sentence of 11 months imprisonment for two counts of using a service to abuse and causing harm by posting an electronic communication. This is the first conviction made under an Electronic Abuse Offences Act in Tonga. Hola broadcasted offences on Facebook and enticed others to commit arson against the plaintiffs and caused them fear and anxiety.
