Kalolaine Fainga’a (32) is serving three years four months in prison for serious housebreaking and theft of goods worth $13,830, including Tongan handicrafts and jewellery from a residence in Tofoa. This was in addition to a suspended sentenced, which was activated. “Housebreaking is always a serious matter, it destroys security, it engenders fear and causes financial distress,” said the Lord Chief Justice.

Hu’akavameiliku (Siaosi Sovaleni) has resigned this morning, at the end of an emotional speech to parliament, ahead of a Motion for a vote of no Confidence that was expected to be tabled in parliament today. “I think Tonga has been through a lot, don’t need to put them through another vote and all that, so I might as well just resign and provide some kind of support moving forward,” he told Matangi Tonga.
