A ‘Walk for Life' walkathon raised 10,000TOP with over a hundred people walking from Teufaiva Stadium to ‘Apifo’oou College, on Tongatapu last Saturday morning.
The president of ‘Walk for Life' Tonga, Halloween Kisina, assists the foundation with its programs.
Kisina presented the sum of the fundraiser to Sione Takataka, the owner of Takataka Gym, at Teufaiva Stadium.
Takataka, told Matangi Tonga that the fund goes to Takataka Gym to help with the rehabilitation of paralyzed people recovering from strokes.
“The money will help us run a rehab program for Tongan stroke patients who cannot walk or have not been able to move actively for a while. Currently there are over 300 rehab patients with Takataka Gym Teufaiva now. There were 26 new cases by January this year,” Takataka said.
The Walk for Life Foundation is based in Brisbane, Australia.
Takataka said that the turnout of the youth for the walkathon spreads more awareness of the need for rehabilitation programmes and facilities for stroke victims.
