While the owner of the privately owned Real Tonga Airline said he wanted to find a way to partner with government, all his staff have left the airline and joined a new government-owned venture, the Lulutai Airline Ltd., which is set to launch a new domestic service in September.

Tonga is struggling to take full control of the harvesting and the exporting of its Bech-de-mer (sea cucumber) resources to reap its fair share of foreign currency earnings from its export. The CEO for the Ministry of Fisheries, Dr Tu‘ikolongahau Halafihi said public consultations on harvesting and exporting had been ongoing since a moratorium was imposed in 2015 but the consultations were not finished before the moratorium was lifted. A woman whose flowering trees and plants on a Puke allotment were destroyed by a neighbour who had an interest in the land, has won an appeal in the Supreme Court to receive compensation for the loss of the plants in her private garden. The case involved two parties who had been given informal rights to use the land belonging to Noble Fohe.

It is quite special that this year all the planets are easily visible and also in a configuration which happens infrequently. In December 2020, Jupiter and Saturn will come closer together, until their great conjunction on 22 December 7:37 Tonga time. It will be a spectacular phenomenon, a few days before Christmas. They will do so again in 2080 but then for centuries to come, not any more. A long time ago, in 14AD there was, interestingly, a great conjunction on 25 December. By Firitia Velt.
