The escape caused huge embarrassment for Tonga and the deceased's family is still deprived of justice, a Police Board of enquiry stated.

Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. 'Akilisi Pohiva wants his son-in-law, Mateni Tapueluelu, to remain in Cabinet, and today refused to accept his resignation from two key government ministerial portfolios. Five road deaths recorded this year is the lowest number of fatalities in over a decade. Between January and November this year, Tonga Police recorded 262 car crashes with five road fatalities - a significant drop from 18 road deaths recorded last year. Car crashes are most commonly attributed to drivers losing control, speeding, drink driving, and failing to give way or stop, police stated in urging drivers to make smart decisions on the road this summer.
