Tonga Police completed the Women’s Advisory Network Leadership training programme on 8 May 2026 after a week-long initiative aimed at strengthening women’s leadership within the organisation.
The programme brought together 26 participants, including 24 officers from Tonga Police and two representatives from His Majesty’s Armed Forces, for leadership development, mentoring and collaboration across Tonga’s peace and security sector.
Speaking on behalf of participants, Ms. Lisi Ki Moana Tupou said the training challenged participants to become stronger leaders by learning how to manage difficult conversations and guide others through change.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Sela Fifita said the programme reinforced that leadership is not about authority or giving orders, but about supporting people through challenges and helping them adapt to change.
Facilitators Lautoa Faletau and ‘Ofa Ki Levuka Likiliki said the training was designed around the participants’ lived experiences, with a focus on adaptive leadership and practical tools for navigating workplace and community challenges.
Likiliki acknowledged the openness shown by participants and said the programme avoided a “one-size-fits-all” approach by reflecting the cohort’s cultural, professional and personal experiences.
Faletau said the initiative aims to build a sustained network of women leaders within Tonga Police and highlighted the importance of mentorship and ongoing support.
In closing remarks, Major Paelata Fetu’u encouraged participants to maintain the relationships and networks formed during the programme.
Tonga Police said the programme strengthened collaboration with His Majesty’s Armed Forces and reaffirmed a shared commitment to supporting women leaders in Tonga’s security and law enforcement sectors.
Tonga Police also acknowledged the support and funding provided by the Tonga Australia Policing Partnership for the initiative.
