Tonga Police arrest 22 for driving under the influence of alcohol at weekend

Nuku'alofa, Tonga

Tonga Police arrested 22 individuals last week under a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) alcohol enforcement operation.

Of those arrested, 14 were males aged between 19 and 56 years, and eight were females aged between 22 and 44 years.

"Driving under the influence is a criminal offence and poses serious risks not only to drivers but also to passengers, pedestrians, and all other road users," Tonga Police statted.

Tonga Police will continue with the operation and remind the public not to drink and drive.

"This is a strong reminder for everyone to make responsible choices and help keep our roads safe."
