Broadband satellite internet connectivity is now being installed for Tonga, under a new agreement between Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC) and Kacific Broadband Satellites International Ltd., signed in Singapore on 1 November. Kacific is providing a satellite-based mobile backhaul solution to improve connectivity in underserved areas, and an enterprise-level back-up service to help mitigate the impact of future outages in Tonga.

Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC) will be providing special relief mobile packages and bonus data, along with other initiatives to ensure all TCC customers are supported during the unprecedented CoViD-19 National Lock Down, the company announced on March 27. TCC CEO Timote Katoanga urged everyone to follow Tongan Government guidelines on Lock Down Level Four to limit and prevent the spread of CoViD-19 across Tonga.

Rizvi Jurangpathy whose employment contract was terminated by Tonga Communications Corporation in 2017, was awarded $165,000 pa'anga in damages by the Lord Chief Justice, who found he was subjected to unfair treatment when he was under investigation for the allegations against him. The employer had relied on “inaccurate and inadequate” information and breached its obligations.

Tonga Communications Corporation handed over a dividend cheque of $1.213 million pa'anga to the Government of Tonga as shareholder in the full and final dividend payment for the last financial year 2014-15. This is the second consecutive year that TCC is paying a dividend in excess of $1 million pa'anga, and growing rapidly year on year over the last five years.
