The office of the Fale Alea reported that the agenda for next week’s sitting will include Government's annual reports, Parliamentary constituency reports, and the Auditor’s compliance report.

An urgent bill pushed by Cabinet last month – the National Spatial Planning And Management (Amendment) Bill 2019 – aims to replace the King’s authority in appointing the ‘Planning Tribunal’ which adjudicates appeals filed by applicants against decisions made by the National Spatial Planning Authority, a body that assesses and approves draft plans of land/development projects.

King Tupou VI, acting on three public petitions, has opened urgent investigations into alleged mal-administration by government, and called for urgent adequate funding of the Anti Corruption Commission. The King has referred three petitions to the Ombudsman, and one also to the Commissioner of Police for investigation and possible prosecution of any breaches of Criminal law.

While uncertainties remain in the forefront, the big task ahead for cabinet and parliament is the National Annual Budget to be passed before 1 July. For historical reasons, this year it's no ordinary budget.

Tonga has decided to adopt daylight saving and will advance its clock one hour ahead on Sunday, November 6 for two-months, in order to allow more daylight hours in the evening during the longer summer days. The change will put Tonga 14 hours ahead of UTC during the summer.

I recall your 2009 report on the Parliament’s 21-1 vote against ratifying CEDAW; it included Prime Minister Pōhiva who voted against ratification. It is, therefore, as clear as noonday to me that Parliament has not passed legislation re-authorizing the ratification of CEDAW if it has previously voted against it. – Sione A. Mokofisi.
