I want our fisheries sector
I want our fisheries sector to do well but I'm not sure banning foreign vessels is the answer. The answers we should be looking for are with fishermen or the fishing companies, see what led to the industry's decline and what is hampering its growth.
Talking about sustainable fishing, I wonder what the Greenpeace party would think of the highly politicized mokohunu trade. If I fished mokohunu and knew the numbers were falling to low levels, it may be a little difficult to stop if others are still fishing it. And if export bans are put in place, at least you take that frenzied impulse, to cash it in before the resource finishes, out of the equation. Tonga is a lot of ocean, sustainable fishing I think is extremely important for the present and future generations.
