Tofua volcano activity continues with an increase in the number of events, from 6 events to 12 events over a period of 24 hours, in the latest report by Tonga Geological Services issued at 6:30 am this morning, 9 May.
The volcano poses low risk to Vava'u and Ha'apai, TGS stated.
The recent magmatic activities in Tofua have been indicated by the fluctuations in the ground thermal levels, although these fluctuations are currently low and approaching normal thermal levels in the last 24 hours.
There was no volcanic ash cloud detected in the last 24 hours, based on satellite images.
Alerts
TGS issued a hazard alert for all Mariners, to sail beyond 1.08 nautical miles from Tofua Volcano, with a yellow ACC alert to the Aviation community.
Meanwhile, a green alert remains to all residents of Vava'u and Ha'apai.
Tofua is located 76.1 km west of Pangai, Ha'apai at Latitude & Longitude 19.75°S, 175.0?°W.
