Brazilians have fallen in love with Pita Taufatofua ever since he made his entrance bare chested and glistening with oil at the Rio Olympics opening ceremony as Tonga’s flag bearer last Friday night (Brazilian time). His fans are so smitten with the good looking 32 year old that a facebook page set up in Rio inviting Brazilians to travel to Tonga after the Olympics in support of Pita has gained over 22k followers, the majority women.

Thats really amazing how much
Thats really amazing how much effect our sports people have on the many people around the world. Perhaps we should allocate less funds to adverts on Tonga and more on Sports. Our Sports stars seem to get way more attention from the world compared to other ways, such as adverts on magazines etc.
If given support, our athletes don't need to go advertise Tonga like a brochure, they just need to be there and be themselves. If the support their given will help them compete at higher levels, it will even be better for in showing others our Tongan culture. Once interested, people will research a little where is Tonga etc, and thats where the pretty pictures of Tonga might come in, also some advice on fun activities for tourists to do when they get here. But in my opinion a bit more focus in Sports will be beneficial. Since there is the seriously large Government budget deficit, we would probably have to take it from other less productive departments in Government. Very proud of our competitors that made it to the Olympics, God bless
