10 charged with manslaughter for violent attack on teenage boy

A teenager has died after remaining in a coma for over a week after suffering a violent attack in the Nuku'alofa Central Business District on the night of July 9. Ten male accused, some of them teenagers, were arrested over the weekend and charged with manslaughter in the death of ‘Alani Fuapau (19) whom they allegedly beat and stomped on in Taufa'ahau Road.

The hope the judge would not
We hope the judge would not be lenient because they took a life. If it's one on one there is more chance that death might have been accidental. But a cowardly and savage group attack like this very much decreases the chance of it being an accident, and becomes less like manslaughter and more like cold blooded murder. If they're old enough to see a fellow human being totally defenseless and still continue to beat him, then they're old enough to face the consequences of their actions and pay the full price of their crimes, according to the law.
