    : The Crown has filed an appeal to the Supreme Court against a Magistrate's decision, which granted a bail variation to Minister of Justice, allowing him to travel outside of Tonga. The Crown alleges that proper procedure for his application was not carried out according to the law. The Minister who is currently facing criminal charges related to wrongful interference in a cow row, is on bail.

    : Tonga’s champion weightlifter ‘Aisake Tu‘itupou caused a big upset at the 2019 Pacific Games after he beat 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medalist David Liti (New Zealand) and silver medalist Lauititi Lui (Samoa) to win two golds for Tonga in the highest division (Over 109kg) of the weightlifting competition at the Pacific Games in Samoa on Saturday 13 July.

    : Tonga’s current development budget of $235.86 million pa’anga will be funded entirely by development partners according to the 2019-20 National Budget statement, which is now published on the Ministry of Finance website. It supports projects aligned with national development goals as well as international frameworks such as the SAMOA Pathway and the UN Development Assistance Framework 2018-2022.

    : A new “Infringement Notice Regime” proposed to give teeth to the provisions of Tonga’s Communications Act of 2015 will allow government to issue penalties of between $1000 and $4000 when they believe a person has contravened the Act, without going to court.
