The success of Tonga’s athletes at the recent Pacific Games held in Samoa where 29 medals were won, will now see Tonga Sports Council (TSC) planning for more sports development - so Tongan athletes can reach 100% performances in the future.

Tonga’s 2019 Pacific Games team returns from Samoa with 9 Gold, 5 Silver and 15 Bronze medals. The medal tally is Tonga’s highest ever at the Pacific Games and a significant improvement from the 2015 Pacific Games where team Tonga returned with 17 medals (7 Gold).

Heavyweight judoka Finetu’ui Moala won two medals for Tonga, securing Bronze in the over 100kg weight category and Silver in the open heavyweight category of the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa. A second bronze model was won by Sailosi Ealelei in the under 100kg weight division.
