New York Times reporting: Six golfers were named on Wednesday Sept. 8 to round out the 12-man American team that will compete in the latest Ryder Cup match against a team of European golfers to be played Sept. 24 to 26 at Whistling Straits in Haven, Wisconsin. The U.S. Ryder Cup captain, Steve Stricker, selected as his choices Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Harris English, Daniel Berger and Scottie Scheffler.

Tony Finau’s goal for 2020 was to finally return to the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour. It’s been four years since his first and only title, at the 2016 Puerto Rico Open, but odds were good that he would finally win again this season. The goal still remains elusive.

The last time Tony Finau won on the PGA Tour was in 2016 when he defeated 70 professional golfers to win the 2016 Puerto Rico Open. That historic victory made Tony the first Polynesian and Tongan to win on the PGA Tour. Since then, the 30-year-old, is determined to win his second. Tony is in La Quinta to participate in The American Express – his second PGA Tour event of the year, set to begin tomorrow 16 January.

U.S. Tongan golfer Tony Finau will join a team of four American golfers led by the legendary Tiger Woods at the 13th President’s Cup this December in Melbourne, Australia. Tiger Woods was given the privilege of handpicking the American team, selecting Tony Finau, Patrick Reed, Gary Woodland and himself.

There was excitement at the Tonga Golf Club last Saturday, 9 April when the Prime Minister, Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva joined the club’s after match gathering, and presented the prizes for the day’s golf competition, a Stableford event.

Tony Finau has hatched his first PGA tour win and a prize of $540,000 after winning the Puerto Rico Open last Sunday, March 27. He now looks for a second career win in the Shell Houston Open where he faces the likes of former PGA champion Phil Mickleson. The four day competition commenced today.
