HM King Tupou VI will celebrate his official birthday on Saturday, July 4, in private with some members of the extended Royal Family, at The Villa Royal Residence. The King who was born on 12 July 1959 will be 61 years old this year. Starting at 10:00am HMAF and Tonga Police bands will march through central Nuku'alofa to the Royal Palace, but there will be no public holiday this year.

A Wesley College student (Year 13), Sione Teutau, has won the Best Actor award for Auckland South and East, in a national drama festival, for playing a nurse in a short performance of a scene from ‘Romeo and Juliet’, The judge said that Sione's nurse was played confidently and with a delightful sense of fun and comic timing, and in homage to Shakespeare’s original male actors.

The rich award attracts photographic entries from all over the world. The world is asking, after their story was published in The Guardian (UK) four days ago and has been read more than 7 million times. The family of Kolo Fekitoa, one of the six, told Matangi Tonga that Kolo passed away about three-years ago at the age of 71.

The sea came up over Vuna Road at around 7:18am, at least one hour before the predicted king tide at 8:13 am, as Severe Tropical Cyclone Harold pushed a surge into the Nuku'alofa seafront on Thursday morning. It could have been worse. A view from space shows how Tongatapu "dodged a bullet” as the cyclone's screaming eyewall missed Tongatapu, passing to the south.
