Over 200 students graduated, in the presence of King Tupou VI, at the first graduation ceremony to be held by the Tonga National University (TNU) today, 4 December 2024. More students will graduate on Thursday and Friday.

Queen Sālote College Dux for 2024 was awarded to the Head Girl, Rachel Mele Tupou Tatafu who achieved 90.9% in her overall academic performance.

‘Amelia Melinda Vaihu was named Dux of ‘Apifo’ou College for 2024, at the school’s end of the year prize-giving ceremony held today, 22 November, at Sir Sofele Kakala Hall, in Ma’ufanga, Tongatapu.

Eighteen students from Tupou College Toloa are pioneering the first Australian-accredited Form 7 exam in Tonga, called the Higher School Certificate (HSC).

Queen Salote College made their debut in the annual Japanese Speech Competition for schools, and won two first prizes for the form 4 and 5 levels. The contest was held at the St. Andrew High School Hall on Friday 13 September. Seven schools in Tonga are now teaching the Japanese language.

The Minister for Finance, Hon. Tiofilusi Tiueti announced a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing support to the education and health sectors during his budget speech at the Legislative Assembly on June 12. A total of $113.4 million is allocated to Education to support the implementation of activities under the Government priority agenda 4: 'Improving education for all’. A total of $78.9 million is allocated to Health, to support the implementation of activities under the Government priority agenda 5: 'Improving access to quality and affordable healthcare’.
