Tupou College Toloa named two Duces at this year’s graduation and prize giving ceremony, held at Saione (FWCT) in Tongatapu today, 27 November 2024.
Filimone Jr Matakaiongo was named the Dux for Tupou College Toloa’s National Stream 2024. He scored an average of 80% and above in four subjects that he topped, including Foundations to English B, Foundations to Sociology, Pacific Politics and Island Geography.
He received a cash prize of $1500 and a trophy for being Dux.
Filimone hails from the villages of Sopu and Kolomotu’a in Tongatapu.
Dux for International Stream
Meanwhile, the first Dux for Tupou College’s International Stream was awarded to Timote Augustine ‘Unaloto Ki Hufangahau Fonokalafi.
He received $2,000 cash prize from the Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala, for being first in English and Science.
He also received another $1,500 cash prize from HM Queen Nanasipau’u, who was the guest of honor at today’s ceremony.
The Australian High Commissioner, HE Mr. Brek Batley awarded Timote an ‘Australia-Tupou Awards for Academic Achievement’ scholarship, which is estimated to be worth $300,000 (TOP).
The scholarship will allow Timote to continue his studies in any school in Australia or in the region.
