
Two Tongan scholars, Ms. Ilaisaaneliki Fonua and Ms. Tokilupe Takau received master’s degrees from the International University of Japan (IUJ). Their academic achievements were celebrated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) today, in Nuku'alofa.
‘Ilaisaaneliki Fonua, from the Statistic Department, conducted research titled “Examining the Capabilities of SMEs in Tonga and impacts on their growth”. Her study provides critical insights into the factors influencing SME development in Tonga, highlighting both opportunities and challenges for sustainable economic growth.
Tokilupe Takau, from the Ministry of Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change and Communications (MEIDECC), completed a thesis entitled “Performance Appraisal for Managers”. Her research evaluates the effectiveness of managerial performance assessments within MEIDECC and proposes strategies to enhance internal management and organizational efficiency.
Their studies were supported through the SDGs Global Leader Program, JICA’s flagship initiative designed to cultivate future leaders in partner countries.
JICA stated there are seven Tongan scholars currently pursuing advanced degrees in Japan through the SDGs Global Leader Program, including two PhD candidates and five Master’s students.
