Tonga's King Tupou VI said today from Auckland that he hoped Government and Parliament would continue to work together to revive the Tongan economy, which has been badly affected by the global financial crisis. He outlined projects that were being undertaken by government in the hope of energizing economic development in his speech that was read out by Prince Tu'ipelehake, accompanied by Prince Tungi and Lord Luani for the opening of a special session of the Tonga Legislative Assembly today.

Some of the police officers who were on duty on the night Kali Fungavaka was arrested and allegedly beaten up in detention, have given their evidence at the Nuku'alofa Magistrate's Court. One witness alleged one of the accused officers stood on his chest while another choked the victim on the neck, as he was being searched inside the Nuku'alofa Central Police Station on the night of August 17, 2012.
