Tonga has been ranked among the Pacific region's top performers for implementing business reforms over the last year, according to a World Bank Group annual report, however, the reason for the ranking is being questioned by those who look at business performance in Tonga.

Digicel Tonga Ltd. is looking to take the usage of mobile internet technology to a new level in Tonga, by linking its services to Tonga's new submarine fibre optic cable, launching its service today, November 1. The mobile phone and internet company has leased fibre capacity from Tonga Cable Ltd., becoming the second carrier after the fibre was launched on 21 August 2013.

Tonga and China will celebrate the 15th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on November 2, while looking forward to continuing development assistance along with opportunities for Chinese enterprises to invest in Tonga. Women's businesses were showcased tonight at the annual pre-Christmas WISE Market Night, held by Women in Sustainable Enterprises (WISE) Tonga Inc. in central Nuku'alofa. Stall-holders attracted a crowd who were entertained by local musicians as they browsed the food, handicrafts, jewellery and other products with many locally-made products on display and for sale. The market opened at 5:30pm in the Fund Management Ltd. courtyard Hala Taufa'ahau and will run until 9:00pm tonight, Friday.

Tonga's parliament has rejected a Private Member's Bill that sought to change how Tongans elect a Prime Minister and proposing that a care-taker government run government when parliament closes at the end of the month, in preparation for the Parliamentary General Election in November next year.
