They cite "maladministration, incompetency, destruction or embezzlement of government property" and creating "difficulties with another country".

An Indonesian diplomat said that Indonesia is “shocked” at six Pacific Islands governments, including Tonga, for accusing Indonesia of human rights violations in West Papua. Nara Masista Rakhmatia during a speech at the 1st Session of the General Assembly of the UN in New York on 24 September 2016 also accused PM Pohiva and other Pacific leaders of using the General Assembly to advance their domestic agendas and to divert attention from political and social problems at home.

Escaped prisoner Dean Jay Fletcher, who fled Tonga, was arrested in American Samoa yesterday because he entered the Pago Pago harbour without a permit, Tonga's Minister of Police Hon. Pohiva Tu'ionetoa told parliament this morning.

The Tongan Parliament resumed its 2016 session yesterday morning October 3, amid disarray. Apparent procedural inefficiencies wasted much of the day. Firstly, a letter protesting against a Bill for a Water Resources Act was read even before the Bill was read in the House. Then legislators spent over an hour listening to motions from one member, even though the Legisture had already voted on and decided for the motions to be lowered into the Whole House Committee. He has not been recaptured and was last seen heading out of Tongan waters. It is alleged he beat his wife to death while visiting Vava'u.

A Chinese company Zhuhai Singyes that is investing more than $10 million pa’anga to build a 2 Mega Watts solar farm in Tonga will sell its energy to Tonga Power Ltd. at a negotiated price, the Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Mr Huang Huaguang said at a reception at the Kahana Resort on Wednesday 28 September. It is one of two large undertakings by Chinese companies investing in Tonga.

After a five hour stand-off a Tonga Police Search and Rescue boat was forced to pull out of a pursuit of the yacht 'Sea Oak' at 4:30pm today, after fugitive murder suspect Dean Jay Fletcher had fired several flares at the small police boat and threatened to set fire to it in northwest Vava'u waters, following his escape from custody in Neiafu earlier. International police services, maritime networks and commercial flights have been alerted for sightings of the desperate man.
