After a trial at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court, Siu ‘i Vahanoa Tu’ipulotu (48) was found guilty of serious housebreaking and robbery at a store in Ma'ufanga, where he punched the complainant several times, before stealing goods. He will be sentenced on November 18.

A Tongan activist Taufu’i ‘Ae Valu Naufahu (33) has been recognised internationally for his exceptional voluntary service supporting the LGBTQI community. HM Queen Elizabeth II, as Head of the Commonwealth, on 15 October, recognised Taufu’i as the 199th Commonwealth Point of Light. Tonga is returning 10,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines to COVAX today so they can be given to Vietnam before the expiry date. The Ministry of Health is disappointed that unvaccinated people have been slow to take up these doses. So far less than 30% of the total population has been vaccinated. The ministry said it is not easy to get the vaccines and now they are trying to get more. Around 31,600 doses of the Pfizer vaccine will arrive in Tonga next week but these are for 12 to 17-year-olds and pregnant women.

Fiji will reopen its border to ‘travel partner countries’ from 11 November, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama announced on Fiji Day, 10 October.
