New Zealand has committed $4.8 million funding to develop Tonga’s resilient health workforce, the New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Nanaia Murata announced last week, meeting with the Minister of Health, Dr. Saia Piukala and frontline healthcare workers.

A new investment of NZ$8 million from New Zealand’s finance commitment was committed to Tonga’s Climate Change Fund. “We anticipate it could include initiatives such as projects to strengthen the resilience of public infrastructure, enhance coastal protections, reduce reliance on fossil fuels for energy and transport, and develop sustainable agriculture and protection for biodiversity,” Hon. Nanaia Mahuta said today.

Essential maintenance on Tonga's tide and tsunami station and global navigation satellite system is being conducted by a team from the Australian Government funded Climate and Oceans Support Program in the Pacific, in Nuku'alofa.

The grant aid projects formalized today, will not only help clean up the rubble and debris after the disaster but also establish better recycling, including scrapped cars. There will also be better water supply systems in the outer islands and the nationwide early warning system project will be completed.

Tonga will hold a parliamentary By-Election on November 3 to elect three new People's Representatives to the Tonga Legislative Assembly, in the constituencies of Tongatapu 4, Tongatapu 6 and Tongatapu 7.

Special needs students at the Government Middle School Ngele'ia have received a donation of computers and equipment to help with their education. The equipment was donated to the inclusive education class for special needs students, the school from the Chinese Embassy in Nuku'alofa on 9 August.
