Women gathered in the Central Business District on 8 March to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2023 held under a theme, 'DigitALL: Innovation and technology for Gender Equality'. Tongatapu People's Representative Dulcie Tei said that the day is about acknowledging women’s achievements and these are what we can build upon to progress equality further in areas that lack women's representation and participation.

Three children have died from viral pneumonia caused by an Influenza B outbreak in Tonga over the last 8-9 weeks, the Ministry of Health has confirmed. About 180 cases a week have been reported but this is likely to be an under-estimation of the number of cases in the community, said Dr Siale 'Akau'ola.

A driver escaped from his car before it was gutted by fire this morning on Vuna Road close to the gates of the Cowley residence. Deputy Fire Commissioner, Sinamoni Kauvaka, in an update this afternoon, said fire fighters responded to the blaze, at around 7:14 am. “a witness who was driving behind this Mazda car...noticed a spark under the car so he overtook the Mazda and warned him”.
