Climate change is the single greatest threat to the Pacific, say the South Pacific Defence Ministers who met in Nuku'alofa last month. The Prime Minister's Office in issuing the SPDMM Joint Communique today, November 8, stated that delegates adopted and reaffirmed the importance of the SPDMM as a forum to enhance cooperation among defence partners and to collectively address Pacific security challenges.

Broadband satellite internet connectivity is now being installed for Tonga, under a new agreement between Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC) and Kacific Broadband Satellites International Ltd., signed in Singapore on 1 November. Data collected from the tsunami affected small islands of ‘Atata, Malinoa and Fafa will be used for inundation forecast modeling for future volcanic tsunami events in Tonga. TGS stated that 'Atata, Malinoa and Fafa Islands were badly damaged by the tsunami with wave heights estimated to have reach 7m, 6.5m and 6m above sea level on each island respectively.
