There is no immediate threat or warning associated with the Tofua volcano and although the ongoing steam eruption is considered a normal occurrence. The localized volcanic activity is being closely monitored by the Tonga Geological Services.

As Severe Tropical Cyclone Kevin moved out of southern Tongan waters on Monday, March 6, the Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre was deactivated. No damage to land areas was reported.

A first Tropical Cyclone advisory was issued at noon today, March 2, for Tropical Cyclone Kevin, a category 1 storm that may enter southern Tongan waters late on Sunday, 9 March, if it stays on its forecast track. It follows TC Judy (Cat. 3). Judy is forecast to pass further to the south on Saturday and is not likely to pose any direct threat to Tonga except for the Tele-ki-Tonga and Tele-ki-Tokelau coastal waters.

The newly established village, located west of Tonga has now been officially named ‘Atatā Si‘i on the estate of Prince Ata.

A cash donation amounting to over $1.23 million given by Australians, was officially presented to Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku, by Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Tuku'aho this morning.
