Pita's attracted a lot of attention for Tonga and also for his sport Taekwondo. After this he's sure to win some modelling contracts as the hottest man today in a town that's known for its appreciation of the body beautiful. A young US born Tongan, 'Ainise Havili (20) has been nominated by the University of Kansas for the “Big 12 Athlete of the Year Award” selected from 12 universities in five states. Raised in Texas, 'Ainise, the daughter of Tongan immigrants Moses and Mele Havili, is a star volleyball player and a member of the 2016 United States College Volleyball team.

A New Zealand court has indicted nine men and one woman for the kidnapping and death of a Thai woman, Jindarat Prutsiriporn in March this year. Among the accused are five Pacific Islander men: Tevita Matangi Fangupo (23), Luigi Havea (26), Panepasa Havea (25), Masi Vaifale (34) and Rogers Paleaaesina (25). A trial date has been set for next year.

Former ‘Ikale Tahi and Doncaster Knights flanker Latu Makaafi (33) is the second highest try scorer in the 2015-2016 season of the RFU Championship, England’s second division tournament. According to the end of season statistics, Latu scored 17 tries in 22 appearances for the Doncaster Knights and was only two tries away from top try scorer Paul Grant of Nottingham.

One of Tonga’s greatest musicians, Bill Sevesi (born Wilfred Jeffs), passed away yesterday April 23. He was aged 92. Bill Sevesi was an early pioneer of modern Pacific Island Music and is credited with popularising and introducing the Hawaiian guitar key to Tonga and other Pacific Islands. Bill also introduced Tongan music to the airwaves for the first time. He was inducted in the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

Obituary. A Tongan life peer, Taniela Hoko'ila Tufui (Dan), formerly Lord Tufui of Talaheu, died on April 19 at the age of 83, in Ballarat, Australia. A barrister, he was the first Tongan to head the Law Department, was a long serving Chief Secretary to the Government of Tonga and Secretary to Cabinet, and a Privy Councillor.

Thirteen Tongan New Zealand artists will showcase their artwork as part of the "Tonga ‘i Onopooni: Tonga Contemporary" art exhibition, the first to focus exclusively on the work of artists of Tongan heritage living in New Zealand. The exhibition opens tomorrow Saturday April 16, at the City Gallery in Invercargill, and runs until 4 June.
