A seven member Tongan delegation attended the 25th Session of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) meeting in Kingston, Jamaica, from 15-26 July, to discuss and formulate a seabed mining code and other matters. Tonga presented a discussion paper on issues related to Small Island States and sharing of financial proceeds from mining of deep seabed minerals.

A police officer has been charged with accepting bribery in relation to the Sione Filipe Jr. illicit drugs case. Their cases are adjourned to July 29, at the Fasi Magistrate's Court.

A hearing date is expected to be set on September 6 to hear submissions in regards to the Crown's proposal to have a joint trial for Tonga’s former Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano and two other accused, regarding passport offences.
