The Prime Minister Hon. Hu’akavameiliku is leading Tonga's delegation to New York to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) next week. As Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Hon. Hu'akavameiliku, will introduce the Pacific Resilience Facility (PRF) to members of the UN, with hope of getting their support.

One big priority for the annual UN Climate Change Conference 2024 (COP29) is to make the climate Loss and Damage Fund operational, said HE Mukhtar Babayev, the COP29 President-Designate, who was in Tonga this week to meet Pacific Islands leaders, attending the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting.

Tonga's domestic fibre-optic submarine communications cable went out again yesterday following a series of strong earthquakes, centred in Ha'apai, that also shook the capital. Tonga Cable Acting CEO Mr Sosafate Kolo confirmed the outage, to Matangi Tonga this afternoon. Cable communications to Vava'u and Ha'apai are cut.
