Responding to social media commentary, Tonga's Acting Attorney General 'Aminiasi Kefu came out to set the record straight that the King's personal Royal prerogative to dissolve Tonga’s Legislative Assembly "is not limited by law and any legal action taken against this dissolution will be dismissed immediately by the Courts." He was responding to views circulated by Lopeti Senituli, a former Government CEO, who was urging the government to take legal action against the King's decision.

'Akilisi Pohiva that he had brought to the attention of King Tupou VI last week. Tonga's Prime Minister Hon. 'Akilisi Pohiva told parliament today that the House was "trespassing on authority" in their attempts to dismiss him. The Tongan Parliament rejected the Motion for a Vote of No Confidence in the Prime Minister Hon. 'Akilisi Pohiva with votes of 14-10 this afternoon, Monday 27 February. A large haul of illicit drugs seized in Vava’u from a yacht called 'JeReVe' in 2012 was destroyed by authorities in Australia, Tonga's Police Commissioner Stephen Caldwell confirmed today in response to allegations raised in Parliament by Lord Tu'ilakepa. He said the comments by MPs were unfounded and attacked the reputation of the police.

Tonga’s former Speaker of Parliament Lord Lasike, who was removed from parliament in 2012 is to be paid $223,385 pa’anga in remuneration by the Kingdom of Tonga, in lieu of a salary that he would have earned as a member of the Legislative Assembly and as Speaker from July 9, 2012 to November 24, 2014, ruled the Lord Chief Justice on February 2.

A year after Tonga’s second democratically elected government came into power at the end of December 2014, Tongan politics is stuck in the doldrums. The repetition by PM Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva that his government has the will to "take action" guided by the high moral principles of "good leadership, rule of law - justice for all and the fair distribution of national wealth," so far, are just hot air.
